Call to Artists and Designers Residing in Colorado

Denver Botanic Gardens: Mid-Century Modern Interpreted
Entry Deadline: Sunday, September 13, 2009

“Mid-Century Modern” will present visual interpretations of the Denver Botanical Gardens’ historic buildings - structures that have long been at the core of the institution. This show is an invitational and will provide punctuation to the 50th anniversary of the Gardens’ York Street location, in addition to celebrating iconic structures amid new developments.

“Mid-Century Modern” seeks to include two-dimensional works of art that capture the essence of the Gardens’ landmark structures such as the Boettcher Memorial Conservatory. From both outside and inside vantage points, these structures designed by Hornbein & White balance monumentality with details that subtly soften the strong lines and cast concrete.

As a result of this Call, a select number of artists and designers will be invited to create new work for the exhibit. A selection of historical documentation and vintage photos will complement the art installation. This exhibit will be mounted in Gates Garden Court, an indoor courtyard/gallery.
